POLICE CHIEF (posted 10-24-2022; closing 12-15-22; first consideration 12-1-22)
Under the general supervision of the City Manager, plans, directs, manages and oversees the budget, activities, projects, and operations of the Police Department. Supervises patrol officers, sergeants, and other assigned staff in their duties. Protects life and property within municipal limits of the City of Huron, Ohio; enforces Codified Ordinances of the City of Huron and the Ohio Revised Code; investigates citizen calls for service; testifies in court as needed. Responds to major, serious, critical incidents and unusual calls for service.
Maintains contact with the general public, city officials, council members, prosecutors, court officials, and other persons as necessary. Works to obtain or sustain superior performance in subordinates. Maintains availability by radio or telephone for consultation on police matters. Directs the development and maintenance of systems, records, and legal documents that provide for the proper evaluation, control, and documentation of police department operations in assigned areas. Researches and answers questions and/or complaints from the public. Attends council, board, and commission meetings.
