Former Con Agra Facility

On May 27, 2010 the City of Huron was notified of the grant award in the amount of 2 million dollars.  Asbestos abatement has been completed and demolition of auxiliary buildings are nearing completion at this time.   October 6, 2010, the dome came down.  Bid specifications/bid opening for soil excavation was held in November 2010.  View the bid specs/bid tab section for results.  The soil excavation project is currently underway at the site.  Bid specs and Bid notice on the final demolition will follow.

The demolition bid opening took place July 29, 2011, with the bid tab posted to the site.  On October 11, 2011 Huron City Council awarded the bid and authorized an agreement with Ed Burdue & Company.  A Notice to Proceed was issued by the City on October 21, 2011.  Project timeline is anticipated to be 180 days.

This week officials from the city, state and federal agencies along with members of the demolition contractors met to discuss the removal of remaining buildings on the former ConAgra peninsula.

The contractor for the final phase of demolition is Sandusky's Ed Burdue & Associates, LLC; Burdue has subcontracted for the removal of the seven story mill building, grain elevator and silos with Advanced Explosives Demolition (AED), Inc. of Tensed, ID.  You may recognize Mr. Eric Kelly and his AED team from their TLC television program "The Imploders". The meeting was the initial discussion for the planning and logistics for the building removal.  Contractors will be on site the week of December 12th to determine the best method to remove the buildings.

A public meeting was tentatively scheduled for mid-December to provide a detailed summary of the project, project date and to answer questions.  After the demolition is complete Burdue & Associates will crush the materials in order to complete the projects.
