The service department provides many of the city's day to day public works operations serving the residents of Huron by maintaining the City's street infrastructure and water system. The Service department consists of twelve full-time employees and is divided into three divisions: STREET , WATER DISTRIBUTION , and WATER FILTRATION.
Each division has its own responsibilities, but aids and cooperates with one another when needed. The service department also works with the city's police and fire division as well as the Parks and Recreation Department.
STREETS
The Street Department is responsible for the road maintenance in Huron. Projects include black topping, crack sealing and concrete repair. In addition to road maintenance, the Street Department also takes care of all the traffic lights, operates the street sweeper, mow along roadsides and the highway, implement the leaf pick-up program in the fall, and have the primary responsibility during snow and ice removal operations. The Street Department consists of four full-time employees and two summer seasonal employees.
